Fucking Brilliant

Questions & Answers: Part Four

My all time favorite composer and song writer is without a doubt Jim Steinman. He is responsible for a number of the hits from artists like Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion, and Air Supply. His music speaks for itself.

From the movie Streets of Fire starring Diane Lane

Bonnie Tyler - Loving You's A Dirty Job

Bonnie Tyler - Faster Than The Speed Of Night

Barbra Streisand - Left In The Dark

Air Supply - Making Love Out Of Nothing At All

Meat Loaf - It's All Coming Back To Me Now

Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell

Mason bubie, you and I have very different tastes in music, but it's all good.I do like Celine but the others i could take'm or leave'm.I like the Rolling Stones;David Bowie;Depeche Mode;Rod Stewart;Natalie Merchant & 10,000 Maniacs and Clannad, just to name a few of my faves.I'm not sure if Celine composes any of her songs but the folks I have listed usually sing their own lyrics.By the way:are you still abstaining from sex? Are you about to explode and can I be there when your jizz hits the ceiling?

TV On The Radio, Radiohead, The Decemberists, Daft Punk, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Justice..........I could go on for a while, but those are my tops.

TVOTR I saw live in October.....One of the best concerts I've seen. Their stage presence & artistry & musicality drive me wild.

me again;I have a question I'd like to pose to you Mason.Which main stream male actors are you attracted to,either because of physical beauty or that elusive animal attraction we feel when we stare into another's eyes? Here are faves: Shia LaBeouf--His eyes are so big and dreamy I could easily get lost in them.Ryan Reynolds---this man is pure man-sex incarnate. He can rape the hell outta me anytime...WOOF!!! Chris Evans---in his skin tight Fantastic Four outfit,he makes me rock hard and that devilish glint in his eyes make me think dirty nasty thoughts, yeah baby!!! There's a new tv series called Legend of the Seeker on sunday nights and the lead actor is this 25 yr old babe whose last name is Horner (and he IS).I wish I could recall his first name. I also have a Major Crush on Nathan Fillion, the star of the sci-fi show Firefly. It was a cable tv show and then a movie,he played Mal. I find many of the male superheroes hot, especially Smallville's Tom Welling(Clark Kent) and the guy who plays Aquaman(Alan Ritchson). Have you ever seen Dante's Cove? The blond Lead,Gregory Michael is quite a babe himself. This list could conceivably go on too long so I'll close with Tobey Maguire, nerdy but delicious. So Mr. Wyler, who makes you sit up and take notice (tv or movies)and say HELLO! ?

I've always loved Savage Garden when they were around, the Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Rob Thomas alone and with Matchbox 20, Lifehouse, The Fray, John Mayer, Maroon 5 and you can never go wrong with the Beatles. So many more to mention, but not nearly the timeto think about them all.

Well I would have to say my favorit composer/wrier is the same person. Mallora Creager is a beautiful writer and celloist. I hope one day to have skill half as well as hers.

I also have to sniker a bit at others choices. Some bands have a group effort in thr music but it is rare usually it is one persons views and the rest are just payed to make sound. Another thing about pop artists such as the group named earlier maroon 5 may have writen a song or two but if you actually do some reading behinde it they are just pretty boys a studio picked up because they needed the t.v. friendly exposure. Most mainstream artist write few if any of thr own songs. It is a truth that if you are pretty and can put out a hit on your own once or twice a studio will fill in the blanks by hiring writers.

I recently discovered the Crashtones and I love their music. I also found myself surprisingly drawn to the soundtrack from Wicked. In high school it was Nirvana, NIN and OZZY. I like some Bonnie Tyler and like a stereotypical mo, Madonna. I have an eclectic taste. I usually don't like any one particular type of music over the other or any one artist more than the next. Mostly I like individual songs from any number of artists and music types. I will usually listen to anything because I never know where the next song I'll like will come from.

Stephen Sondheim, baby! And Leonard Cohen. And don't even get me started on the classical guys, since that's what I (more or less) am. I'll just say Johannes Brahms and leave it at that for now.

Funny you mentioned Steinmam, I think he wrote all of Meatloaf's music, they were supposed to be a duo, but when Bat Out Of Hell came out the producers left Stienman's name off the cover. It should have read "Meatloaf and Jim Steinman - Bat Out Of Hell"

the one and only musical genius john williams. there is probably not a single person who hasn't heard his work. be it from his days conducting the pops to writing the music for some of hollywood's biggest movies, he always manages to fill you in awe. as much as i love john williams' work, ron nelson's rocky point holiday is my favorite piece.

Interesting taste Mason. I am quite opposite from your musical tastes.
as for me, I am more of a Nu metal rocker.

#1 - KoRn
#2 - Cold
#3 - Disturbed
#4 - System Of A Down
#5 - Nightwish

As for classical/contemporary musical composers - My all time favorite is Antonio Vivaldi, as i love to play the winter pieces :)

For opera I love Maria Callas :) Her rendition of Carmen is spectacular :D

As Always I love to read your blogs. Keep up the good work!

Steinman?! You mellow dramatic queen!!

(says the guy who knows every word to It's All Coming Back to Me Now - the extended version)

As for composers/writers, Tim Rice was wonderful. Lindsey Buckingham, Bono and the Edge are great writers too. Rick Rubin and Robert "Mutt" Lange are two incredible music producers.

BIIIIIIIIIITCH!

I used to live for STREETS OF FIRE!

I'm about to go on Netflix right now! If it's not available for INSTANT WATCH, then it's going in my queue like a mutha!

I urge everyone to listen to Blitzen Trapper. Seriously. And some of the more folksy Beck.

I still think the HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH soundtrack is brilliant. And Sweeney Todd.

Damn... the more I type, the gay I get. ;)
